A quick, general rule of thumb is to take the overall width of your tabletop and subtract 24″ to get the width of your table base. Make sure the legs do not go below these minimum widths:
For any metal table base designs that taper in at the floor, add 6-8″ to the above minimums for the minimum base width since the width is measured at the widest point of the base, at the top, and they taper in 6″ to 8″ at the floor.
Some of our metal trestle bases are intended for use with square or round tops, so the “width” of the base is a measure of the overall diameter of the base and length is not an option. For base styles that specify both width and length, the length of the base will depend on how much overhang your tabletop can support. As a general rule of thumb, follow the below max overhang recommendations for the below top materials:
Top thicknesses and strengths vary, so it is ALWAYS best to get a recommendation from the fabricator of your tabletop for overhang allowances. Also make sure the length of the base does not drop below the above width minimums for stability.

The Zig Zag metal table base is great for dining tables, desks, conference tables, and much more! It is great for wood tops, glass tops, and stone tops. Scaled down versions of this base can be made for benches, coffee tables, end tables, etc. The metal base comes with a fully welded top frame connecting the metal table legs together, offering a much sturdier approach to traditional individual metal table legs, especially for glass and stone top applications.
This metal table base uses relatively simple shapes to offer a unique twist on the traditional geometry of table bases. It is made from structural steel tubing, using a blend of square and rectangular tubing sizes, fully welded for a solid construction.
For glass top applications, we omit the mounting tabs, leaving a clean, smooth surface visible through the glass and provide clear rubber bumpers to stick on top of the metal table base for the glass to rest. The pictures show the base for a glass top application. By default, we include mounting holes for the base to be secured to the table top. Make sure you let us know if you have a glass top when placing your order.
This base can be made from a variety of different tubing sizes depending on how prominent you want the base to look. Larger tubing sizes also offer more strength and stability to the table. It comes standard with mounting tabs with slotted holes as well as felt tipped leveling feet. This base is also an excellent choice for wood, glass or stone tops. Made in the USA, with US sourced steel.
We also offer the Zig Zag Style Metal Table Legs as a more traditional option for individual legs as opposed to the single piece base. For more information on the difference between metal table legs and a metal table base, see our Legs vs Base Guide to determine which is right for you.
All products undergo extensive quality control checks to ensure your products are made as specified and come free of any defects or sharp edges. Please Contact Us if you have any questions about the sizing, details, or applications of these metal table legs, or see our Base Sizing Guide for help.
